Same same, but different
For us, most exhibitions come down to the same storyline when it comes to the overall organisation. Among other things, culture and working hours might differ but the general gist is the same. Except when you are working in Canada or the USA, here are things a little different. For example, in any other country, you can bring your own general contractor who has his own people for build-up, as well as electricians and so on. However, in Canada and the USA you have to follow certain rules because all labour that can be done by a local party has to be provided by a local (union) party. It’s only possible to bring your own contractor if you can prove that they are the only one who can do this work. If it’s not approved, there is the option to bring your contractor for coordination tasks and hire a local party for the actual work.
This requires a new way of thinking and a lot of delegation. Our people knew how to adapt to this union culture and were able to set up a great show!
